Sugar Daddy Ken sticky icon

KenOfficial name is Sugar's Daddy Palm Beach Ken.  Sugar being the little dog.  And Mattel says this is aimed at the adult collector market so we needn't worry about little girls asking mommy about the implications of this doll.

Mattel says the doll's name is in reference to Ken's pet -- Sugar, a white West Highland terrier that Ken leads on a pink leash. The dog is included with the doll, along with several accessories, including sandals, sunglasses and swim trunks.

Asked about the possibility that the doll's name may be misinterpreted, a Mattel spokeswoman wasn't fazed.

"At the end of the day, this collection is targeted toward adults," said spokeswoman Michelle Chidoni. "While the name of the doll does refer back to the dog, I think people are going to interpret it as they want to interpret it."

That according to ABC

Ramey III - Women doctors a travesty sticky icon

Women doctors? Ya gotta be kidding! Yet for the early years of the 25 that I spent in a medical school teaching and doing research that was sadly a fact. But strong women pushed and prodded to get in and one or two were finally accepted only to face a hell few people today can imagine.

Ramey II - Saving men from themselves sticky icon

Dr. Estelle Ramey turned academia and corporate America on it's collective ear - head over teakettle.  Some may think as they read about her, "Oh that was 40 years ago" and they would be right, but most thinking women and men know that things have only changed on the surface.

Below the surface, tradition fiercely battles any attempt to acknowledge the human-ness of women.  Proof positive of this is how openly misogyny and sexism is flaunted with very little blow back; the continued need for battered women's shelters and the lusty slave trade in women's bodies.

Dr Ramey's pithy comments, like this one,  can stop people in their tracks  and kick start thought:

Things That Make You Go...?!? sticky icon

According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, women experience about 4.8 million intimate partner-related physical assault and rapes every year. With those numbers in mind, can we see anything wrong here with the following website screen shot: Violence Against Women

Now That Caroline has felt the sting of "Unqualified" sticky icon

Now That Caroline has felt the sting of "Unqualified" I must once again confess to taking two steps backward on my journey towards feminism.

We've just witnessed and been a part of another shining example of the double standard women face in the politics of the 21st century.  Had the sadly dead publisher of "George" been the Camelot running, would we have screamed UNQUALIFIED?

A dear friend wrote me and mentioned the pattern that had unfolded in the New York papers.

  • Hillary Clinton, unqualified! √
  • Sarah Palin, unqualified!  √
  • Caroline Kennedy, unqualified!  √
  • Kirsten Gillibrand, unqualified!  √

Do you see the pattern?

"Could you stop braying at me?" sticky icon

Our ally, Heidi Li, has a wonderful post up at her blog, "Heidi Li's Potpourri." http://tdg.typepad.com/heidi_lis_potpourri/2008/11/could-you-stop-braying-at-me.html

In part:

"I recommend that when somebody tells you Senator Clinton is shrill (as a colleague of mine kept shouting in the hallways of my workplace all primary season), you say, "Could you stop braying at me?"

Heidi is responding to the new round of CDS (Clinton Derangement Syndrome) MSM pieces appearing in the last few days after Madam Secretary-to-be's nomination was announced. I guess now that Governor Palin is back in Alaska, it's back to business-as-usual with the Hillary bashing.

They always have to have some woman to ridicule, don't they?

Is a “tool bag” a “tote” if a woman carries it? sticky icon

Tool bag lost in spaceThe Associated Press headline reads, Astronaut outside space station loses tool bag. However, a better title for the article would have been, Helpless women losses tote in space. I first saw this story reported in Florida Today, my local paper. Florida Today provided a non-biased tag line and article title, and left out all the negative gender stereotyping when reporting on the incident.

Will men dominate Obama administration?

from Politico By LISA LERER | 11/15/08

Early indications that men might dominate the hierarchy of Obama administration have women’s groups worried, even as a growing chorus of advisers reportedly pushes Hillary Rodham Clinton for secretary of state.

“There’s definitely been a reaction to the few groups that have been named so far,” said Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women. “I agree with those who are concerned that it would have been nice to see more women."

It took a student to act like a journalist sticky icon

This is a long article but worth the read. A Columbia Journalism student covered Harriet Christian's trip for Democrats for McCain from NYC to Scranton. Her interviews show that many people are voting against Obama for a variety of reasons and not because of what the Obamamedia wants the public to believe.

Clinton Democrats: The Media Has Got It All Wrong

There are valid reasons why Obama still has problems winning over some Clinton supporters and it's not because of racism.

Obama And the Obama-Media Risking A Backlash Of Atleast One sticky icon

Today I finally made a decision to write-in Hillary on my ballot this year.  But then I read the "news" about McCain's "Palin problem"(no link, Chuck Todd, not worth it).  I read that Palin is a "drag on the ticket"(where have we heard that before?) and polls a higher negative than positive rating among the electorate, odd for a woman who netted SNL their highest ratings in 14 years, bizarre for a lady who consistantly outdraws Obama at her rallies.  Oh, she also spent too much campaign money on her wardrobe(which I LOVE, I always thought Hillary should wear tall boots to debate).  I guess she was supposed to campaign in her Parka and snow shoes or whatever. Oh, and she also lacks the experience.  Now that pipeline she's got going and raising taxes on the oil companies may be the right experience for like a Hooters waitress, but not a Vice President.

Female McCain Supporter Attacked by Male Obot on the streets of NYC sticky icon

After seeing this video of McCain supporters verbally assaulted on the streets of the Upper West Side, it is no surprise that things would escalate into physical violence.

From Cannonfire:

The Dems are now guilty of every sin they have ever ascribed to the Republicans. The Dems bleat about a mythical call to violence at a Palin rally, yet they themselves are guilty of both verbal and physical violence -- as in this instance when Democrat fanatics assault a woman who won't vote as they wish. From the complaint filed in the criminal court of NYC:

The Tweety Awards are Back sticky icon

Tweety

The Tweetys are back after a two week layoff.  My dear friend Alegre asked me to run with it over here rather than A's Corner where she is focusing on all the issues championed by Hillary.  We on the other hand, have two prime issues.  Stop Obama and Stop Sexism.

The Tweety is given for Excellence in Misogyny by "professionals" in the print or online media.  It is not for your average blogger boyz.

Nominations are open.

I am a Feminist sticky icon

That's an amazing statement for me to make but today I realized the truth.  I am a feminist.

Yes, I'm of the male variety and I'm not gay.  In fact many would consider me a sexist for my woman loving ways but I'll argue with anyone that a love of women and a love of the female form is anything but sexist.

But today it hit me or really it started yesterday while fishing and I finalized the thought today.  Damn.  Fishing is the one thing I do where concentration completely clears the mind of any problems or worries.  But even in the outstandingly beautiful fall weather and good fishing my mind came back to this election.  That's what bama has done.  Ruined my fishing.

What the Sweet Obama Dems are Saying about Palin sticky icon

My husband and I (here) made this neat little poster that I think could use a push to get onto every intelligent website.  Send away.

No and I don't want America to sound like that either.

Maybe? Maybe we drank the Kool-Aid sticky icon

Maybe we've been had.
I mean it. Maybe for the last X years we've been drinking kool-aid. Maybe, just maybe we've been listening to the wrong people.
We all know the world is upside down. We're living a Vonnegut novel that ends before it starts, where left is right and right is left. Up is down and down is up.
A fantasy world where Democrats follow a Rovian Rasputin and Republicans follow a Truthsayer.
Well here's something else to think about.
