Thinking about this Shirley Sherrod learning moment sticky icon

A pivotal spot in political history.

Don't we all feel dumb now?  Every talking head saying how every other talking head jumped the gun without doing the journalist's job of checking the facts.  The White House doing the worst in this mess by reacting to a clip on a blog post because it might have an effect on the evening Presidential ratings.

And not just talking heads.  Even this blog has a post showing the original short clip that Andrew Breitbart used to target the NAACP.

This is the time for us all to have the conversation.  Not about race or immigration, rich or middle class, tax cuts or jobs programs, abortion or adoption.

No

This is the time for us to have a thoughtful conversation about how we as a nation wish to converse about our future as a nation.

Do we wish to continue the one minute news cycle that demands instantaneous responses thus feeding the one minute news cycle?  It has become a monster that feeds on itself.  It especially loves to feed on instant polls and un-verified writings by unknown self appointed journalists.

Clueless in America sticky icon

Being a citizen in an America led by Obama has its challenges; we’re expected to pretend we’re as clueless as our media. This is especially hard right now, because we're also told to suspend our disbelief. The Clueless game from what I've pieced together has at least four rounds.

ROUND 1: He's Different

Is it possible that Obama’s Indonesian education did not include the study of the Louisiana Purchase? We know he is geographically challenged when it comes to America; they tell us it's because he can't be bothered with trivial things. He belongs to the World.

Open Thread: Diversion? sticky icon

With all that's going on now:  Fort Hood, Unemployment, Health Care Reform, and Wall Street Shennanigans, take a look at Huff Post's front page headline.

They're playing the freaking race card again! -- putting Glen Beck's comments from last July front and center (because a right-wing guy recently said he agreed with Beck).  Aren't there more important things worthy of headline status? Honestly.  (and I thought I'd seen some improvement at Huff recently -- maybe they figured they took a couple steps forward, so they're due for a step back?)

Obama campaign stoked the Clinton racists meme sticky icon

Thanks to pm317 at NoQuarter for posting about Tucker Carlson laying into Obama for calling the kettle black and his campaign's racism smears of Hillary and Bill Clinton.  My dislike of Tucker hit a high point back in the primary, about the time he gave up bow ties.  But this is incredibly informative and I'm shocked that a member of the MSM would tell the truth after all this time.

The very end of the video is the best but it's all good.

Thank you Tucker and thank you pm317

ENOUGH!!! sticky icon

Enough, already!

For the fourth straight day I am staring at non-stop front-page coverage of Michael Jackson's death.  The reaction to Jackson's death is on a par with that when JFK was assassinated and even greater than that when Bobby was killed.  This is ludicrous!  I'm desperate for news from Iran and it's buried under a mountain of stories about Jackson.  This morning's CBS mainpage lists eleven stories at the top.  Six of them are on Michael Jackson.

NY Times Split Personality sticky icon

'When she was good, she was very very good, but when she was bad, she was horrid.'  Longfellow

Here's just another entry in the sad chronicle of the decline of the 4th estate.  In the what-were-they-thinking department we have this odd recommendation, as highlighted by the UK Daily Mirror:

The New York Times dubbed the deprived districts of Deptford and New Cross as "London's Wild West" and urged Americans to visit the area's gritty attractions...There were 8,376 violent offences committed against people in Deptford's borough Lewisham. The figure includes four murders, 1,674 robberies, 135 gun crimes and 101 rapes..."All I can say is I hope they like hoodies, muggers and junkies - there are enough of them here." Even Deptford councillor Heidi Alexander admitted: "It does seem a bit bizarre."

The truth of the Primary theft is finally out UPDATE sticky icon

Update 1 As you read about this try to remember the polling fiasco that was NH.  Every poll escept SUSA got it wrong and the news the night of the win was not Hillary's great win but how did all the polls screw up.  That is what this reseach is about.

Concerned Mother over at our frineds NoQuarter has just published newly released reports showing that the media misinterpreted that Hillary's NH win as racism rather than poor polling leading up to the NH primary.  That as we know caused the racial furor leading into South Carolina and the subsequent wins by his Oliness.

This is big.  Way to F&^$ng late but big none the less.

Today the American Association for Public Opinion Research Ad Hoc Committee on the 2008 Presidential Primary Polling released a pdf report on the methodologies utilized by pollsters during the Democratic primaries. It is a long report, and a cursory analysis of it is available at Pollster.com.

A Political Cartoon to Get Us through the Day sticky icon

Rodriques Inauguration Cartoon

I’ve confessed my love of political cartoons, their ability to speak to me and strike an internal chord. The Michael Rodriquez cartoon pictured above had just that effect when I first saw it, and I’d be willing to bet that Hillary Clinton and John McCain agree with its indictment of our national media. At the very least, I hope it brings a smile on what is in Chicago an in-your-face cold day.

Never To Blame, Never Accountable: The True Legacy of the Bush Administration sticky icon

It's very tough to accept this fact, but yes, George W. Bush is still our President. Apparently, someone still cares enough to interview Teh Deciderer about his eight-year reign of error. Surprisingly, he actually admitted a mistake. But as usual, it was all someone else's fault.

Dubya's greatest regret was the "intelligence failure" in Iraq. (I always say that the intelligence that failed was his.)

"The biggest regret of all the presidency has to have been the intelligence failure in Iraq," Bush said 50 days before president-elect Barack Obama's inauguration. "I wish the intelligence had been different, I guess."

A Tale of Two Parties: Myths, Realities and Strategies in the General Election sticky icon

What Happened?
What Happened?

Now that the shock and disbelief of Election Night have passed (and I must admit, I feel no small relief to finally have the matter decided), I find myself more able to analyze what happened on Tuesday. And unsurprisingly, it isn't the tale the media told us.

Governor Sarah Palin sticky icon

When John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, I was interested in learning about her and her accomplishments. I've had a long wait. The main stream press not only failed to provide the salient points of her executive career, it instantly began creating its own Sarah Palin with a portrait not exactly flattering. So, I had to do my own research. Even the media couldn't suppress the fact that she has polled as the most popular governor of all 50 states. Another testament to her broad support: when she served as mayor, she was elected by her fellow Alaskan mayors throughout the state as president of the Alaskan Conference of Mayors. I wanted to find out the reasons behind her popularity, and here's a small summary of some of her accomplishments as Governor that most impressed me.

Obama Infomercial Fact Check sticky icon

Barack Obama has come under some scrutiny after Obama For America aired a 30 minute product infomercial on Wednesday, Oct 29. Associated Press writer, Calvin Woodward, caught just some of the misleading or false claims made by Obama in the informercial:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was less than upfront in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office. Obama's assertion that "I've offered spending cuts above and beyond" the expense of his promises is accepted only by his partisans. His vow to save money by "eliminating programs that don't work" masks his failure throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are — beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. [emphasis added]

Obama And the Obama-Media Risking A Backlash Of Atleast One sticky icon

Today I finally made a decision to write-in Hillary on my ballot this year.  But then I read the "news" about McCain's "Palin problem"(no link, Chuck Todd, not worth it).  I read that Palin is a "drag on the ticket"(where have we heard that before?) and polls a higher negative than positive rating among the electorate, odd for a woman who netted SNL their highest ratings in 14 years, bizarre for a lady who consistantly outdraws Obama at her rallies.  Oh, she also spent too much campaign money on her wardrobe(which I LOVE, I always thought Hillary should wear tall boots to debate).  I guess she was supposed to campaign in her Parka and snow shoes or whatever. Oh, and she also lacks the experience.  Now that pipeline she's got going and raising taxes on the oil companies may be the right experience for like a Hooters waitress, but not a Vice President.

Nuts and Bolts: Obama, Acorn, and Election Fraud sticky icon

The vigilant Just Say No Deal (JSND) Coalition is keeping a watchful eye on ACORN. In a handy chart, the JSND editors have traced the nuts back to Obama's community organizing days, connected the dots to Obama's staffers and radical associates that form his new Democratic party, and linked to the entrenched interests within the Democratic Party that sheltered Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, causing the economic crisis. The troubling news about ACORN keeps rolling in with little mainstream media Obamedia scrutiny. Reacting to "recent revelations of ACORN registering dead, underage, and fictitious voters," JSND released a statement on Monday, October 6th, saying:

and let's just say, he's not too happy with the state of the Obamasphere.

Action: Conflict of Interest for VP Debate Moderator, Gwen Ifill (Updated 2x) sticky icon

PBS’s Gwen Ifill has a pro-Obama book scheduled for release on inauguration day, January 20, 2009. Gwen IfillShe has been openly in support of Obama and has an obvious financial interest in Biden doing well in the debate and Obama winning the election. The McCain campaign did not know about Ifill's book and bias toward Obama. (Is anyone surprised about the media bias toward Obama at this point?)

Tuesday Open Thread

Before you do anything, leave this post and go read Izzaradar's "Dear Sarah, Dear Sister" if you haven't already.  This is surely one of the best posts to ever go up on P'zane.

On to the news...

So Michael Jackson was "murdered".  Does the fact that his "killer" was paid big bucks by the victim to do what killed him change this?  How much more MJ coverage will we have to endure?

More fear-mongering...the administration's science advisory group says H1N1 could kill up to 90,000 Americans this winter.   From www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,542083,00.html

Monday’s report from the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, PCAST, shows a sober assessment of the dangers of a pandemic, but also serves as a pat on the back for a White House preparing for its first public health crisis.

Gotta get those strokes in for the prez.

Four US soldiers were killed by an IED in Afghanistan.  The one war we SHOULD have fought is going south quickly.  Our poor military must be as desperate for some leadership as we are.

Today in total F-ing amazement.

I'm actually on vacation today and I'm still perusing the blogosphere because everywhere I turn I end up ROFLMAO.  It's just bizarroland in the US today.  For your enjoyment:

The WaPo is selling access to WH insiders and congresspeople to lobbyists like freakshow hawkers on the midway.

Helen Thomas has been around a while and she's never seen a snowjob like this.

Last but not at all least, I have to quote from Greenwald today.  This is not a joke - he's serious.

Vote NOW

PBS has an online poll posted asking if Sarah Palin is qualified.  (Did PBS ever have a poll questioning Obama's qualification?) The poll will be reported on PBS and picked up by mainstream media.  When I voted this afternoon, it was evenly divided:  49% yes: 49 no.

Here's the link:

Pass it on to like-minded citizens.
