"He had me until he picked the dummy" sticky icon

That's what my wife's coworker said to me last night.  "He had me until he picked the dummy".

During the primaries we had chatted once or twice and she seemed like the only sane person my wife worked with in the OR.  She'd call about the next day's schedule and when I answered we'd have a short talk about Hillary.

Tonight she's kept me from sleeping.  It's 3:30 am here in the east and I can't get that sentence out of my head.

I answered the phone and she said, "hi".  I asked, "who is this?"  "This is the diehard Hillary supporter who works with your wife", "You didn't vote for John McCain, did you?".  "Of course I did.  I couldn't vote for the crook".

That's when she said, "He had me until he picked the dummy"I said, "She's the Governor of a state" and she countered with, "She's a dummy".  At a loss for words I said, "hold on, here's the o'bot".

Unity First sticky icon

Here's another pundit praising the One for his Transformational Unity theme.  I'm copying out a few excerpts for your amusement.

Perfecting the Union by Roger Cohen,  11/06/2008  NYT

.....beyond the economy, beyond health care, there was something even more fundamental at stake in this U.S. election won by Barack Obama: the self-respect of the American people.  .....

Obama made a simple bet and stuck to it. If you trusted in the fundamental decency, civility and good sense of the American people, even at the end of a season of fear and loss, you could forge a new politics and win the day  .......
“In this country, we rise or fall as one nation, as one people,” he declared Tuesday night in his victory speech to a joyous crowd in Chicago.  ......

Because I've posted too many final arguments to count.  Almost one for every primary.

My closing argument forgets everything else, all the crap we've thrown at the wall but wouldn't stick to teflon.

McCain Town Hall Peterborough, NH UPDATE sticky icon

John McCain said he came back to thank New Hampshire and ask us to put him over the top one last time.

I did not get inside but instead stood in line and in the streets of the town that was the inspiration for Our Town.  Huge crowd of many thousands for a hall that held 600.

Update because I remembered what I wanted to say.  Curt Shilling of the Red Sox said we're down 3 games to none and he's been there before.

Fergus Cullen, State GOP Chair said something we all have to hear.  He said do not underestimate your influence on your friends and neighbors.  When he needs computer help he calls his brother the geek.  When he needs help with his car he calls his uncle the mechanic.  We are the political wonks that people listen to.

Do not underestimate your influence.

Here are some pics.

My Voting Strategy sticky icon

Hear Us Roar!
Hear Us Roar!

Our beloved blogmother has asked all of us Conflucians to "come out" and explain what we are doing on November 4th, and to choose a word that would summarize our NOBAMA position.

My word is "misogyny," and I'm voting for the 30% Solution in order to begin improving the lives of women throughout this great country.

An Open Letter to Compatriots (Are You Reading, Masslib?) sticky icon

We empathize; we've been there, where you are. It is not a good place; it's filled with too many unanswered questions. Please,  for our collective good, move on. We have work to do, and we need you standing with us. Hear us out; this is a Call to Principle.

Remember in November that the neo-Dem elitists have used the lethal weapons of misogyny, ageism, and race-baiting to conduct their would-be coup.  If they win as a result of these tactics, it will empower them to continue in the same vein. They will get worse, not better. Join us in stopping them.

Obama And the Obama-Media Risking A Backlash Of Atleast One sticky icon

Today I finally made a decision to write-in Hillary on my ballot this year.  But then I read the "news" about McCain's "Palin problem"(no link, Chuck Todd, not worth it).  I read that Palin is a "drag on the ticket"(where have we heard that before?) and polls a higher negative than positive rating among the electorate, odd for a woman who netted SNL their highest ratings in 14 years, bizarre for a lady who consistantly outdraws Obama at her rallies.  Oh, she also spent too much campaign money on her wardrobe(which I LOVE, I always thought Hillary should wear tall boots to debate).  I guess she was supposed to campaign in her Parka and snow shoes or whatever. Oh, and she also lacks the experience.  Now that pipeline she's got going and raising taxes on the oil companies may be the right experience for like a Hooters waitress, but not a Vice President.

Vote “present.” It’s important sticky icon

I don’t have anything against real hope. I’m like everyone else: I can’t live without it. But hopiness is toxic. It’s important not to swallow it.

Before I get rolling, I’ll say right away: No, McCain doesn’t scare me as much as Obama does. I know McCain lies, but Obama is a lie. That’s worse. I know McCain called his wife a cunt. Obama told her to get over it. That’s worse. So don’t say I have to vote for Obama because ZOMG! McCain!. That doesn’t mean a thing to me. There’s also no point calling me racist if I don’t think Obama is perfect. The “Why do you hate America?” shtick didn’t work on me when the neocons tried it. The latest method of shutting people up is equally pathetic.

Here is the speech I will deliver in several places in New Mexico this weekend.

My name is Lynette Long. I am a feminist, a mother, a Democrat and an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter and I am voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin on November 4.

If you missed last night's hilarious roast, here's the McCain comedy routine.  He's good, real good.  I particularly like the shots of Hillary cracking up at the jokes on Bill.  And she looked great.

Well, it's coming into the home stretch now. Finally, after all the shocks and the agony and the disappointments and the activism, we are less than three weeks away from the final decision as to who will be our President next January.

Is McCain The More Liberal Candidate? sticky icon

I think one of the finest moments for McCain's campaign was when he told that woman at his rally that Obama was a good person and she didn't have to be afraid.  It showed tremendous, instinctive character.  There are times I wonder if the guy who voted against the Bush tax cuts, who like Biden, always has supported the war, but told Bush from day one he wasn't going in with enough troops, if the guy who voted against the Cheney energy plan, and voted for price controls on Medicare drugs, who stuck his neck out for immigration reform and anti-torture legislation, and stuck with public financing, and the guy who recently adopted HOLC(frankly, it's pretty much Hillary's plan no matter what she is saying today), is actually the more classical liberal candidate?  That's not to say McCain doesn't have a conservative voting record.  He does.  But voting records don't tell the whole story.

What drove Mr. Stauckas to reconsider his vote?:

SAN FRANCISCO — Looking out at the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge from his perch at the Ferry Terminal here, where he stood gossiping in the fading light with a colleague, Michael Stauckas explained how a lifelong Democrat living in the nation’s most-easily-reduced-to-a-political-cartoon city comes to even consider voting for Senator John McCain, a Republican, for president.

This blogger wrote and asked if I could link to this post and after reading the writing of another one of us in limbo, I decided to give you a preview.  The blog itself is not one of our usual PUMA joints but this particular post is a very good read.

from Acid Test

Once upon a time I was filled with sick horror at the thought of a McCain Presidency. Now? Not so much. He hasn’t changed.  He does have a new running mate, but she doesn’t scare me.  After Dubya, it feels petty to pretend that inexperience is some kind of showstopper.  What’s changed for me is the growing sick horror with which I view an Obama Presidency.

Who Won The Debate Last Night? Hillary Clinton. sticky icon

Okay, I know what you're thinking. Is she that far gone? Does MadamaB (whispering) see Clinton People?

Of course not. I know that Obama and McCain were both up on that stage last night. But so was Hillary Clinton - that is, her plan for the economy was. And when Obama parroted that plan, those ten minutes or so were the strongest portion of his argument. He never reached those heights again during the entire debate.

Don't believe me? Let's do a side-by-side comparison, shall we?

Here's Obama's plan from the debate.

I remember when good enough wasn't good enough sticky icon

Do you?

I remember when this country wanted it's President to be great not just good enough.

I remember when Presidential candidates like Bobby, Gene or Dennis stood for things and staked their lives on those beliefs.

Tonight, though my rose colored glasses thought McCain won hands down, the MSM are happy, even giddy that Obama did "good enough".  He didn't mess up, he didn't make any big blunders.  He was good enough.

John McCain led every single discussion including those Obama had first.  McCain drove the discusiion and as usual Obama said Me Too.  Not in those words but we Clintonistas remember how bambi always agreed with Hillary.  Never offered anything new.  He takes the safe road of agreement and the MSM let him.

Do you remember when the press wanted our leaders to be better than good enough?

Remember Dan Rather refusing to back down in the face of the most powerful man on Earth?

"McCain has his priorities straight" - Ruben Navarrette Jr. sticky icon

Wow!  A sane opinion on CNN

By Ruben Navarrette Jr.
Special to CNN

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/26/navarrette.obama.mccain/index.html

Talk about a last-minute reprieve. Tonight's presidential debate in Oxford, Mississippi was nearly a casualty of the financial crisis. It's back on schedule.

But hopefully, not back on script. Given all that took place this week, it's obvious that the format of the debate should be immediately revamped to focus not on foreign affairs and national security as planned but on the one subject every American is talking about: the economic crisis.

It would be surreal to watch Barack Obama and John McCain debate what to do in Baghdad or Kabul when the country's attention is fixed on Wall Street.

More reasons to vote McCain-Palin sticky icon

Another letter in my continuing effort to convince my mom that Obama is not "the one."

Mom, whether you know it or not, you're using DNC talking points from the Obama campaign. John McCain is very healthy and strong. Remember, I've seen him in person and was very impressed with him as a human being.

As for Sarah Palin, she's far more qualified than Obama since she has several years of executive experience under her belt. She's no redneck, as if anything would be wrong with that if she were. She has been in politics for 16 years and also has business executive experience.
