Hillary Clinton
Obama & Britain: God Save the Queen
It has been written that Obama doesn’t like Britain, because his father and grandfather were jailed by the Brits during the 1950’s in Kenya’s Struggle for Independence. Obama shared that his grandfather was jailed for "more than six months" in his Dreams from My Father, but he provided no details about the event. Other accounts relate that his Kenyan grandfather was also tortured. Obama’s Granny Sarah (Mrs. Sarah Onyango) says her husband recounted his torture to her. She even gave details of the ordeal to reporters during Obama’s run for the presidency. Although Obama has wisely never discussed his feelings, there have been indications that Britain is not on his Favs List.
When
Obama took over the Oval Office and officially called it his own, he quickly had a bust of Winston Churchill, photo right, removed. The MOFO website says it was because Churchill had a history of saying things like: “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal division of blessings, while the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal division of misery.” A case can be made that It might have something to do with philosophical differences, but I think it is more likely that Churchill has less happy memories for Obama than for Americans who celebrate his wartime leadership. It was during Churchill's second term of office that Britain suppressed Kenya's Mau Mau rebellion and allegedly tortured Hussein Onyango Obama, the President's grandfather.

Even if Obama wins a second term, Hillary Clinton will be moving on in 2012, according to an article in this week’s Telegraph. Clinton sees herself "going back to private life...."

Today is the one-year anniversary of President Barack Obama’s Inauguration. Yesterday, Blue Massachusetts turned its state election into a referendum on both Democratic Party tactics and the Obama agenda. The voters shook up the Washington establishment and sent the message loud and clear that their Senate seat belongs to the people and they can bestow it on whom they please.
To Mark Halperin: Au Contraire, mon frére -- Joe Scarborough defends Hillary.
With all the hoopla over Mark Halperin's book Game Change in the major media, I went to read Peter Daou's account of what he saw from Hillary Clinton during the 2008 Presidential Campaign (Pacific John has an excellent article up now; go here http://alegrescorner.soapblox.... if you haven't already seen it). Daou was a senior campaign staffer, and he's the first one to come out and say flat out that this book is wrong. (Mind, I've seen many other denials since -- Howard Wolfson comes to mind -- from Hillary campaign staffers. But Mr. Daou's was the first.)
But not all members of the major media have forgotten their recent history, and some of them have been quite articulate in their defense of Hillary Clinton. The person who comes to mind, though, as having given the best defense of HRC's character to date, though, is former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough --MSNBC's "Morning Joe" himself.

Scarborough is displeased, as he says here in an article picked up by the Huffington Post:
Open Thread: Hillary Effect
cited for increase in female ambassadors to and from U.S. (from Washington Post):

Matt Taibbi's wrong: Obama is still the same, dammit.
Most of you have seen Matt Taibbi's Rolling Stone article by now (see it here: http://www.rollingstone.com/po... ). But the first few paragraphs are what is endemic about the current mess, with this quote being one to which I take immediate exception:
What's taken place in the year since Obama won the presidency has turned out to be one of the most dramatic political about-faces in our history.
No. It's. Not.

Hillary Clinton Breaks Elbow (with updates)
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fell and fractured her elbow last evening. She will require surgery.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/18/clinton.arm/index.html
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fractured her right elbow Wednesday during a fall, State Department officials said.
Clinton fell Wednesday afternoon on her way to the White House and was taken to George Washington University Hospital. She was treated and released, and will have surgery to repair her elbow in coming weeks.
"Secretary Clinton appreciates the professionalism and kindness she received from the medical team who treated her this evening and looks forward to resuming her full schedule soon," said Cheryl Mills, a State Department spokeswoman.
"With Secretary Clinton temporarily out of commission there is nobody left to do the hard work of governing", said Presidential spokesperson Dickie Slash Cheetoma.
All federal drones will be sent home until further notice.
NYT: Obama Roolz, Bill Clinton Droolz
See if you can spot the ObamaNation talking points scattered throughout the propaganda piece. (Don't worry, I'll help you out.)
Bill Clinton loves to shop. On a March day in an elegant crafts store in Lima, the Peruvian capital, he hunted for presents for his wife and the women on his staff back home. He had given a speech at a university earlier and just came from a ceremony kicking off a program to help impoverished Peruvians. Now he was eyeing a necklace with a green stone amulet.
Standing all by himself, the former president of the United States moved his eyes methodically across shelves of wooden carvings, jewelry and sculptures as he searched for something distinctive to bring his wife. “She used to look forward to me coming home from wherever I’ve been,” he mused with a laugh. “Now I’m afraid I’ll be second fiddle to whatever world leader she’s just met.”
Talking Point: Bill's a girl! He likes to shop! He's totally emasculated by Hillary's appointment as Secretary of State. Obama Roolz, Clinton Droolz!
The advent of a new Democratic administration, with his wife in the top cabinet slot, has opened a new chapter in the eventful life of the nation’s 42nd president. No longer in exile, yet not exactly in the inner circle, Clinton is trying to define his role and find his place in the Age of Obama. He agreed to some limits on his activities to satisfy the good-government advocates around Obama, but he is still traveling the globe, pushing his favorite philanthropic programs, collecting six-figure checks for speeches, dining with foreign leaders and in his own way speaking for America again. A couple of weeks ago, he agreed to serve as the United Nations special envoy to Haiti.
Talking Point: See? Obama has only been in office five months and already he's got an Age. An Age, I tell you! He is the most historical-est, bestest Preznit EVAH! And did Bill have a clothing line and his own TeeVee station? I don't THINK so! Obama Roolz, Bill Clinton Droolz!
Barack Obama's First 100 Days: A Play in One Conspiratorial Act.
SCENE ONE: The President of the United States, BARACK OBAMA, is sitting in the back of his plushly-appointed limousine. A TV screen showing constantly looping DVD's of OBAMA'S greatest speeches is strategically placed in front of his eyes. It has a calming effect on him in these days of stress and strain. OBAMA is smoking a cigarette to further relax him in preparation for the meeting he is about to attend.
LIMO DRIVER: Where to, Mr. President? We've been driving in circles for 15 minutes now.
OBAMA: Is anyone following us, Frank?
LD: Just the usual photographers and Secret Service, Mr. President.
OBAMA: Ditch the photogs, Frank. The Secret Service knows where we're going.
LD (with slowly dawning realization): Ohhhhhh. We're going THERE. (impressed and determined) Hang on, sir. I'll get you there in no time.

Obama "Learning the hard way"
From the Economist, March 26th issue
Barack Obama may at last be getting a grip. But he still needs to show more leadership, at home and abroad
HILLARY CLINTON’S most effective quip, in her long struggle with Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination last year, was that the Oval Office is no place for on-the-job training. It went to the heart of the nagging worry about the silver-tongued young senator from Illinois: that he lacked even the slightest executive experience, and that in his brief career he had never really stood up to powerful interests, whether in his home city of Chicago or in the wider world. Might Mrs Clinton have been right about her foe?
Ooh. Jab, noogie, wedgie! That first paragraph is only the beginning. They give him some props for foreign policy (could that be due to Mrs. Clinton?) then go on to rake him over the coals about the economy. This was before his victory lap through Europe.
Whither Iraq?
In a post entitled "But Hillary Voted for the Warrrrrrrrr!", I detailed the absurdity of the default Obot position that Barack Obama was somehow "superior" to Hillary Clinton regarding Iraq, simply because he had given a speech in 2002 stating that he was against the invasion.
Did any of the Obots even know Hillary Clinton's plan to end the war in Iraq? Or did her scary ladyparts get in the way?
Here is the portion, found at the above link, that makes me especially sad today.
SUMMARY OF HILLARY CLINTON'S PLAN TO END THE IRAQ WAR

Women Will No Longer Be Denied
It's happening - the promised awakening that resulted from the misogyny directed at both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin during the election of 2008. Women are realizing that they are a force to be reckoned with, and that their power lies in standing strong to support other women.
Just look at Barack Obama's executive order, signed on March 11, which created a White House Council on Women and Girls. Many Presidents have had similar councils, including Presidents Clinton, Kennedy and Roosevelt. This council was not part of the President's original plans; but womens' groups have been lobbying him to make this happen for several months. And lo and behold, it did!

Never Give In or Give Up
Today a 300lb bomb was found in a village here. I have to write about this, so forgive me please.
New York Senate Seat to Gillibrand
CBS News says New York Governor David Paterson has given Hillary Clinton's Senate seat to Kirsten Gillibrand. This is news to celebrate!
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/01/23/politics/main4748665.shtml?tag...
CBS also quotes a NYTimes story claiming Caroline Kennedy withdrew from consideration for Clinton's seat "because of problems involving taxes and a housekeeper that emerged during the vetting process."
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/01/22/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry...
Kennedy sources deny this, claiming her withdrawal was for more personal reasons.
How 'bout that, folks? There was a "vetting" process for Caroline Kennedy. I must have missed it when I blinked.

Secretary Clinton speaks to her employees
I'm an owner of this governement so I'm taking the liberty of posting my employee's speech in it's entirety.
So, Can She Start Now?
President-Elect Barack Obama has finally named Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton as Secretary of State today. I am thrilled, but nervous, since I expect the press to react like this for the next four years, and she will face many challenges in her new position, including - perhaps - other members of Barack Obama's Administration.
