The Tweety Awards are Back sticky icon

Tweety

The Tweetys are back after a two week layoff.  My dear friend Alegre asked me to run with it over here rather than A's Corner where she is focusing on all the issues championed by Hillary.  We on the other hand, have two prime issues.  Stop Obama and Stop Sexism.

The Tweety is given for Excellence in Misogyny by "professionals" in the print or online media.  It is not for your average blogger boyz.

Nominations are open.

Our FDR Speaks. Will Anyone Listen? sticky icon

Hillary's latest op-ed in the WSJ today shows that she has the boldest and the clearest ideas to get the people and the government out of the giant mess that deregulation has caused. Surprisingly, she is not focused on rewarding Wall Street for its epic greed and predatory lending practices. Huh. Who could have predicted it?

This is not just a financial crisis; it's an economic crisis. Therefore, the solutions we pursue cannot simply stabilize the markets. We must also deal with the interconnected economic challenges that set the stage for this crisis -- and reverse the failed policies that allowed a potential crisis to become a real one.

Come on and Play at My House sticky icon

Disruption and Diaspora 3 of this election is well under way.  We, me, I want to offer travelers a reason to stay a bit and help us build something a little different.

Those of us who have already begun to find our home are for the most part feminists.  Yes, me too, read the thoughts.  We are also mostly very Anti-Obama.  And we may say we're for McCain or McKinney but I think we're all a little lost.

Tonight I skip my Democratic Committee Meeting sticky icon

I resigned as Vice Chair or Chairman of Vice effective Oct. 1.   I am still a candidate for State Rep. on the Democratic side.

My letter stated the time constraints of my more than full-time job.

In reality, and they know, I cannot be part of a group of Obama lovers anymore.  I will become an Undeclared Voter soon and the entire process, the whole division of our once great party, is making me sad beyond belief.

I've been through other ones and sucked it up but this time is so much different.  All except one other on our town committee were early Obama supporters.  A couple were for Richardson or Edwards but the flip to Obama came easy to them since it was always Anyone But Clinton.  The others ceased being friends over a year ago.  It was that attitude that most Hillary supporters have seen and usually showed itself as the typical reverse 1984 logic of the Kool-Aid crowd.

Believing In Action sticky icon

I've noticed that many of the Obamans who interact with me tend to conflate beliefs with action. Perhaps this is why they support Obama, as he suffers from the same confusion:

Kroft: Senator McCain made some of the same noises this week, blaming Wall Street greed, promising reform and oversight, and new regulations to protect investors. What's the difference between the two of you?

Obama: Well, the difference is, I think, that I've got a track record of actually believing in this stuff. (emphasis added)

Of course the financial crisis is on everyone's mind.  This is one place where I don't understand the bullshit from the Democratic side.  I have always been against deregulation and have written extensively about the False God Reagan and the problems he started.  I don't have time to review all that but I these dems bought into dereg in the 90's because they had no spines.  The 1999 changes, under Clinton, were as much his creation as the dumb ass republicans.

Then there is Chris Dodd.  Chair of the Banking committee that did squat about these problems during his entire tenure.  Now he wants to save the world.  How about resigning and slinking back to Connecticut?

More reasons to vote McCain-Palin sticky icon

Another letter in my continuing effort to convince my mom that Obama is not "the one."

Mom, whether you know it or not, you're using DNC talking points from the Obama campaign. John McCain is very healthy and strong. Remember, I've seen him in person and was very impressed with him as a human being.

As for Sarah Palin, she's far more qualified than Obama since she has several years of executive experience under her belt. She's no redneck, as if anything would be wrong with that if she were. She has been in politics for 16 years and also has business executive experience.

I am a Feminist sticky icon

That's an amazing statement for me to make but today I realized the truth.  I am a feminist.

Yes, I'm of the male variety and I'm not gay.  In fact many would consider me a sexist for my woman loving ways but I'll argue with anyone that a love of women and a love of the female form is anything but sexist.

But today it hit me or really it started yesterday while fishing and I finalized the thought today.  Damn.  Fishing is the one thing I do where concentration completely clears the mind of any problems or worries.  But even in the outstandingly beautiful fall weather and good fishing my mind came back to this election.  That's what bama has done.  Ruined my fishing.

Fact Check: Obama's Social Security charge sticky icon

First the verdict.

Verdict: False. There is no basis for Obama to claim that "the millions" who rely on those benefits would be affected, or that anyone's nest egg would have "disappeared."  But McCain does support allowing some Social Security funds to enter the stock market in the future, while Obama does not.

How will you enjoy the last full day of summer sticky icon

I'm going fishing.  Fly fishing in northern NH for Land Locked Salmon.

fishin

(an actual photo taken by me in Maine a few years ago.)

The fish usually win but then, I go for the air, the scenery and the total immersion in what happens where line meets water.  We call fishing, not catching.

No iPod for me thank you.  I want to hear and be a part of nature.

It is one of those clasic early fall days with crisp air, blue skies and a magnet that pulls most of outside.

I need to eat then head out.

So what are you doing this last full day of summer?

ps.  All fish I do catch swim away free.  A cruel game yes but if this is my worst sin I'm happy.

The Politics of Fear? sticky icon

If you have been paying attention to all the Palin-mania over the past few weeks, you might notice a common thread running through all the negativity: Fear.
