Hillary Clinton, Audrey Thomason Photoshopped Out of Situation Room Photo

 Morning Gloria —

Ultra Orthodox Hasidic newspaper Der Tzitung is telling its readers like it isn't- by editing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from the now-iconic Bin Laden raid Situation Room photo. Oy vey.

The religious paper never publishes pictures of women, as they could be considered "sexually suggestive." Apparently the presence of a woman, any woman, being all womanly and sexy all over the United States' counterterrorism efforts was too much for the editors of Der Tzitung to handle.

While saving precious vulnerable men from being driven mad with desire over the image of a woman may be in line with Der Tzitung's editors' ideas of piety, Jewish Week's Rabbi Jason Miller points out that the altered image violates a central tenet of the faith,

Audrey Thomason, the counterterrorism analyst seen peeking out from behind another onlooker in the back of the original photo, was also airbrushed away, due to all of the sexy man-tempting that her very presence in a photograph would do.

RIP: Derek Miller, Blogger sticky icon

Derek K. Miller (photo right)  was a 41 year old Canadian writer and musician, who blogged for over 4 years about his battle with colorectal cancer. When he realized he would lose his battle, he did not stop blogging but shared his experience with his readers:

"I'm at the point with my cancer that the car has finally bumped down off the pavement and we're driving on gravel now. What I mean is, the end of the road is somewhere up ahead, not too far, and I'm not going back to smooth speedy travel, ever. To keep moving at a reasonable pace, I have to pay more attention to details, and a lot of stuff I previously took for granted requires effort—mine or someone else's. This has happened faster than I expected, but life often does."

Polygamist Bro Links Obama Name to Fraud sticky icon

During Obama’s first run for the presidency, we read and heard a great deal about his Kenyan family. Candidate Barack Obama used that tie and his Indonesian childhood to weave the message that his multicultural heritage and upbringing made him uniquely better able to lead America in the 21Century.

“Roy”, Obama’s Kenyan half-brother (the Muslim polygamist that not long ago took a teen as his third wife), has turned up again just in time for Obama's next run.

His name is tied to news about a Barry H. Obama Foundation he runs that claims to support poor Kenyans. The organization, which is named after President Obama’s father, claims it is a tax-exempt, federally recognized charity, but it seems it isn’t.

The New York Post ran the story over the weekend:

'Clean stoves' would save lives, cut pollution sticky icon

USA Today OpEd

By Hillary Clinton and Julia Roberts

This Mother's Day weekend, most of us will enjoy a home-cooked meal — maybe even breakfast in bed. We'll probably take it for granted that the meal was prepared in a clean kitchen, where the air is safe to breathe. But for nearly half of the world's population, cooking at home is a deeply dangerous act. In fact, it poses one of the most serious health risks in the developing world, and it's a major threat to the environment.

The reason? Smoke from dirty stoves or open flames. Some 3 billion people live in homes where food is cooked on stoves orover fires burning fuels like wood, dung, charcoal, or agricultural waste. These fuels produce toxic fumes, and in poorly ventilated homes, the mix of chemicals can reach 200 times the level that the EPA considers safe to breathe. It can cause lung cancer, pneumonia, cataracts, low birth weight, even death. .....

Obama, Ground Zero, & Us sticky icon

I get the feeling the POTUS thinks his trip to Ground Zero yesterday means our nation can close the book on 911 and move on to a new world order. (Are you feeling those vibes?) If I'm right, he's wrong.

When he spoke about the success of the Navy Seals mission and the death of bin Laden earlier this week, Obama made a point of saying:

“… [W]e must also reaffirm that the United States is not –- and never will be -– at war with Islam. I’ve made clear, just as President Bush did shortly after 9/11 that our war is not against Islam. Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader; he was a mass murderer of Muslims.”

Unfortunately, President Obama was skirting the truth just as GW did before him. Yes, there are many Muslims, who suffered because of bin Laden and who are glad he’s gone.

However, there are also many Muslims, who mourn him because they honor him as a Muslim leader, which the following excerpts from an AP article point out:

The Enemy within Our Midst: Honor killing in Michigan sticky icon

A Minnesota man travelled to suburban Detroit on April 30th and fatally shot Jessica Mokdad, his 20-year-old step-daughter (pictured on the left). Police there say it was because she left Minnesota to live with her father and was not adhering to Muslim customs. Her friends say the step-father was obsessed with her in a less than honorable way and would not leave her alone.

This story has all the earmarks of an honor-killing. The victim was a beautiful young girl victimized by a male relative, who attempted to use their religion to control her. She would not submit and died as a result.

The step-father (pictured on the right), Rahim A. Alfetlawi (45) was charged Monday in Warren, Michigan, with first-degree premeditated murder and two weapon offenses. He is accused of killing Jessica Mokdad with a single gunshot to the head in her grandmother's home.

SOB OBL Dead: Open Thread (Updated 3x) sticky icon

Time to celebrate! Big stock market rally looks probable on Wall Street today. Impromptu crowds celebrating outside White House fence in DC and in Times Square. Lots of American flags, chanting USA, and some Bush/Cheney memorabilia on display. I even spotted a yellow Gadsden flag flown by a Tea Party member. It's happy time!

Some sort of revenge attacks seem likely but at least we got the big fish. He resisted, tried to use a woman as a human shield but she was shot and then Osama was shot in the head, along with some others, including his son.

Obama: Al-Qaida head bin Laden dead - Yahoo! News

Update: The op was carried out by Navy Seals. Hurray for the Seals! Fantastic operation, flawlessly executed. Makes the US stronger and the dollar is strengthening on the news.

Let My People Go sticky icon

HT/BNI

During the Sudanese civil war, which lasted 23-years and ended in 2005, Muslim forces from the North swooped down on villages in the Christian South. They shot the men and enslaved the women and children. (You read that right, they made them slaves.)

Christian Solidarity International has managed over the passage of time to free some 100,000 of those slaves through a complex series of negotiations with their slave masters and intermediaries. In the beginning, the humanitarian organization traded cash for freedom, more recently freedom has been won through the trading of cow vaccine.

In March of this year, a prominent rabbi from Boston named Joseph Polak and his wife went to Sudan to celebrate the freedom of 150 newly emancipated slaves. Some of them appear in the photo.

Trolling sticky icon

Now I do fish and sometimes I've been known to troll a fly for spring landlocked salmon.  This is not about that.

Recently I opened up the registration process somewhat and I've noticed an influx of trolls with hilarious user names and no posts or comments.  These folks are the ones who earn $1000/week at home in spare time by adding links to commerce sites.

If I get many spam posts the site will once again be locked down since I do not have time to deal with it and as I said elsewhere, I am thinking of moving on in the near future anyway.

Tonight, I'll try and write down my thinking.

Listen up, women sticky icon

There is a wealth of information for women and girls in this video.

"If you ask men why they did a good job, they say, 'I'm awesome.' If you ask women why they did a good job, what they'll say is someone helped them, they got lucky, they worked really hard."

The double standards we make for ourselves.

FDR on Class Warfare sticky icon

Only desperate men with their backs to the wall would descend so far below the level of decent citizenship as to foster the current pay-envelope campaign against America's working people. Only reckless men, heedless of consequences, would risk the disruption of the hope for a new peace between worker and employer....

Here is an amazing paradox! The very employers and politicians and publishers who talk most loudly of class antagonism and the destruction of the American system now undermine that system by this attempt to coerce the votes of the wage earners of this country. It is the 1936 version of the old threat to close down the factory or the office if a particular candidate does not win. It is an old strategy of tyrants to delude their victims into fighting their battles for them.    .....

This land is your land sticky icon

This land is your land, this land is my land From California to the New York Island From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters This land was made for you and me. As I went walking that ribbon of highway I saw above me that endless skyway I saw below me that golden valley This land was made for you and me. I roamed and I rambled and I followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts While all around me a voice was sounding This land was made for you and me. When the sun came shining, and I was strolling And the wheat fields waving and the dust

Nobel Peace Prize Winner Supports War Criminals & Atrocities in Libya. (Western Media Silent) sticky icon

Our media is going out of its way to give the White House version of the battle in Libya, even though that means not telling the American public the truth. Gaddafi has a terrorist history, but the rebels who say they want to liberate Libya have shown they are no better.  Our liberal press has no problem embracing war mongers when it suits its ideology, which is to do whatever necessary to win Obama the 2012 election.

Unlike our media, uruknet.com has told the story and it’s posted below:

"Pro-Gaddafi Soldiers who surrender have been executed by rebels in cold blood! Blindfolded, hog-tied, beat, executed, hung, beheaded, put on fire, had their bodies mutilated, and in one documented case a Soldier had his heart cut out of his chest when he proclaimed that his "heart is for Gaddafi" and the rebel took a bite out of the heart. In Misrata, the rebels burned some soldiers and then waved and danced around with the charred remains of their corpses.

Shades of Things to Come sticky icon

I watched two YouTube clips on the Internet today that were a flashback for me to the 2008 Presidential Primaries. They  remind me of the far left ideology of so many Obama supporters that I first encountered during those primaries. They also make me recall the incivility that so many of us experienced then, because we favored a different candidate.

The videos were taken in Portland Oregon on April 15th in Pioneer Courthouse Square. The Portland Tea Party had gathered peacefully there to protest Tax Day and hear patriotic speakers and music. They were confronted by an angry counter protest, which of course included the Socialists and Communists that support Obama.

See if you can make out what they are saying:

squirrels is a 4 letter word sticky icon

It's war. And I hope our old friend Kim is reading.

Last fall I planted 100 crocus bulbs in the front lawn. I had seen this on cape cod years ago. The crocus bloom and die back before the first mowing and if you randomize them, the lawn looks like a meadow in bloom.

Mine had risen, survived an extra touch of 3" snow, and just started openning on Wed. Today was the day to photograph them.

Last night or early this morning a squirrel ate every single flower and the tops of some emerging Narcissus and tulips. I should have been out there at sunrise with my BB gun.

This is in a yard almost 100% covered with acorns. That's it. The oak trees go. The squirrels with them.

Fran Gehling sticky icon

My home town of Londonderry, NH suffered a tragedy this week.  Not olny did we lose a wonderful mother and daughter, some of us lost a friend.

Fran and my wife and I were long time acquaintances withing the circle of Democratic activists.  My wife, more than I due to the 2008 split, had seen Fran more often over the last few years.  All the people of Londonderry and particularly the competition on the other side, have expressed their sincere respect of Fran and the loss they feel in the death of Fran in the tragic fire this week.

This was a woman who cared about her town and all her fellow human beings no matter their political views.  She was quite simply one of the good ones.  She was quiet but strong.  A truly wonderful woman who will be missed.

Fran and Becky Gehling

The Gehling family issued the following letter, we thought you would appreciate reading it in it’s entirety.

To the community of Londonderry;

We are obviously deeply saddened by the deaths of Fran and Becky. They blessed us all. They have been irreplaceable gifts to each of us.

As reported, Fran was indeed a Democratic activist, but she was infinitely more than that . She was wife, mother, grandmother; daughter, sister, aunt; and she was a friend to many. Though Fran was a woman of profound conviction and passion, she held one conviction above all; the love of family.

Taxes done, doing my bit sticky icon

Whew! We finally got our 2010 taxes done, ready for mailing. Can't e-file this year because I had to include a form downloaded from the IRS that Turbotax couldn't handle. Things got so complicated, for the first time I had to call an accountant to figure out how to do something. Doing the taxes this time was harder and took longer, thanks to our dear leader. For the first time, we got hit with a huge AMT bill and an unprecedented gigantic tax bill for both federal and state. Guess that's par for the course when you sell some stock and are a partner in 5 restaurants. Someone has to pay for the wonderful benefits the government provides. ;)

Things have been stressful enough doing the taxes but I nearly fainted when I saw the taxes due number after accidentally importing financial data twice. I thought I was importing from two different accounts without realizing all account data was already lumped together by the institution. Good thing I took a look at the worksheet and saw all the repetition.

Vigilante Injustice in Pakistan sticky icon

In Pakistan, Islamic fundamentalism is on the rise, and some say that has resulted in the conviction and imprisonment of hundreds of people under the countries blasphemy laws.  At least thirty of those convicted have been killed by vigilantes, but Pakistani officials have failed to arrest anyone for those murders.

Creationism, Aliens and Apes sticky icon

A few of the folks at work were just discussing astronaut theory and where we come from.  The strong "Christian" in the room said no way.  Others were saying that there are references in the bible to the aliens who came to Earth to breed and create us.

I came into the discussion late and here is all I said.  I kinda like the quote.

Fighting about where humans came from is absolutely of no use in planning where we are going.
