North Dakota House Grants Fertilized Eggs Human Status
Yes, you read that right. I'll let the story speak for itself.
A measure approved by the North Dakota House gives a fertilized human egg the legal rights of a human being, a step that would essentially ban abortion in the state. The bill is a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that extended abortion rights nationwide, supporters of the legislation said. (emphasis added)
...
The bill declares that "any organism with the genome of homo sapiens" is a person protected by rights granted by the North Dakota Constitution and state laws.
I guess we know where North Dakota stands on harvesting stem cells from embryos. I await Obama's comments on this vote. Any thoughts on what he'll say?

Good grief! A fertilized egg is just that...an egg. I just don't get it, but then I don't get a lot of things these days.
Not only do I know people who are less than human, this law would make the foot shavings inside my Ped-Egg human.

Not that this is a laughing matter, but it does remind me that I need to pumice my feet.

I had a feeling once Obama became elected that there would be a challenge to Roe v Wade. I don't know why, but I just had a feeling something like this would pop up. All the obots kept screaming that if we voted for McCain Roe v Wade would be attacked, I just kept having this bad feeling that it would be attacked under Obama.
My other feeling was we're going to see the reinstatement of the draft.
the draft, yep, could be. Afghanistan could be his quagmire.
all the parents of actual children in ND should amend their state income tax filings for the year prior to the birth of their children and claim another dependent. Let the state put its money where its mouth is. Probably do not have many HOV lanes in the state (since they barely have any people), but this would give most women a ready out.
Obama will probably say something along the lines of this not being the North Dakota he knew.
Seriously, what the hell is wrong with those people?

about what Obama will say, then he'll throw ND under the bus, yet campaign there to get their votes.

I just cut my finger nails. Do they have dna? Would I be breaking that dumb ass law?

homo sapiens. That's how they manage to do DNA tests on hair follicles and skin, blood, etc. Under that law, any part of your body is protected. Imagine the murder charges under a law like that. You would not only be charged for killing the person, but also for each individual cell in his body since they too contain the genome. Whoever wrote this law is a fool who doesn't understand what "genome" really means, or the extent to which we all have it. Under that law, my liver is "a person protected by rights granted by the North Dakota Constitution and state laws." So can it sue me if I drink too much and mess it up? I don't drink, but I know people who do. Are they living under the threat of being sued by their body parts? Will donated kidneys be able to sue for abandonment and alienation of attachment? How will this law affect donor organs? Will they have the same rights in their new person that they did in the old one? I hope that Saturday Night Live goes to town on this one.. I can see it now, dancing livers and kidneys, with some intestine tossed in for variety and texture, all claiming the same rights as the whole person. The only people who will think this is a good idea are the lawyers handling the law suits on behalf of the body parts.
