Unity First
Here's another pundit praising the One for his Transformational Unity theme. I'm copying out a few excerpts for your amusement.
Perfecting the Union by Roger Cohen, 11/06/2008 NYT
.....beyond the economy, beyond health care, there was something even more fundamental at stake in this U.S. election won by Barack Obama: the self-respect of the American people. .....
Obama made a simple bet and stuck to it. If you trusted in the fundamental decency, civility and good sense of the American people, even at the end of a season of fear and loss, you could forge a new politics and win the day .......
“In this country, we rise or fall as one nation, as one people,” he declared Tuesday night in his victory speech to a joyous crowd in Chicago. ......
(got that, folks? Now Cohen goes on to say):
Obama never got angry. Without breaking a sweat, he took down two of the most ruthless political machines on the planet: first the Clintons and then the Republican Party. .....
McCain opted on a whim for a sidekick, Sarah Palin, who personified the very “country-first” intolerance and Bush-like small-mindedness of which many Americans had grown as weary as the world has.
............
my comments:
Notice how he lumps together the Clintons and the Republicans? And what a guy that Obama is -- he took out those ruthless Clintons. And he's such a charmer those ruthless Clintons turned around and campaigned their hearts out for them, and won him the election. (would he have won without all those won-over Clinton voters?) And how intolerant of McCain and Palin to believe in Country First". (Doesn't that country first theme hark back to "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your county." That JFK was such an intolerant guy to believe in country first.

the world is swimming in Kool-Aid but we must be immune. Unreal.
Civil Discourse - ERA - A Mother President - Women's Rights - Primary Reform
a cult or anything.
Perfecting the union? Dear god, who are the fools buying this swill?

GONE FISHING
On the day that The New York Times declares bankruptcy (which should not be too far off since its stock is tanking), America should celebrate with fireworks and the closing of public buildings, because it will be a great day for our democracy. Do the people, who write for this rag, think of themselves as journalists? Or are they proud to be partisan hacks?
Earlier today I posted a comment on a model airplane board. I got a reply from a guy I know to be a rabid Democrat. He informed me that I "looked foolish", "do not understand the whole story", and I "know" he is right.
But it's okay. He also consoled me with the fact that I am "well-intentioned."
I'm spitting nails right now and getting depressed again. It looks like venturing beyond this little island of sanity is going to be a really bad idea for the foreseeable future.
It's all your fault, people. You've got to quit treating me like an equal. I'm getting delusions of adequacy.
GONE FISHING
I feel those of us that haven't drank the kool aid, don't want to drink the kool aid and intend to continue to think for ourselves are going to have some rough times ahead.
Having Obama shoved down our throats for a year was bad enough but I suspect that every move he makes will be documented and lauded by some Obamabot nitwit and we will be subjected to it endlessly.
I have avoided ALL news channels or programs for the past few days. In the first place there is seldom any "news". There is speculation, innuendo and gossip. That's not what I consider news. And since I don't believe much of anything any "news" organization says it leaves me without a place to find the facts I need to "know" what is really going on in my own country.
As for the NYT, it's always kind of sad to see something that was once great crumble and stumble into irrlevancy and decay. In the case of the times, after printing such drivel, it's just sad that it's taking so long!
