My Final Closing Argument

Because I've posted too many final arguments to count. Almost one for every primary.
My closing argument forgets everything else, all the crap we've thrown at the wall but wouldn't stick to teflon.
- I've argued that the Presidency is a job that should be earned through hard work and proof of concept.
- I've argued that the issues no longer matter to me because they get trumped by character.
- I've argued that Roe is safer under the GOP than dems.
- I've argued that a man should be judged by the company he keeps.
- I've argued that a candidate who has a different speech on the same issue depending on audience, is someone who will, in office, give a new speech neither audience heard before.
- I've argued that one who's only job is running for the next job, will as President only be running for re-election.
- I've argued with people who literally had their hands over their ears.
- I've argued with people I held in high regard and I've argued with web trolls I wouldn't give the time of day.
All those arguments have been, I hope, as an adult and a civil blogger. Arguing, debating, is not fighting as some would have us believe. Arguing is the only means to ever Change a fixed opinion. Fighting only stops civil discourse.
My final argument is one word. TRUST
This video I showed the other day expresses that conflict felt by many Democrats and former Democrats.
I am a Democrat. I have been my entire long life. I'm a Democratic candidate on the ballot of my town tomorrow. I want(ed) a Democrat in the White House so we could accomplish great things. But I cannot in good conscience give my vote for the most powerful job on Earth to someone I do not know, someone I do not TRUST.
John McCain I know. I know we disagree on more than we agree but I know who John McCain is and most of all I trust John McCain to always do what he thinks is right, not just what may sell more votes.
That's it.
I trust John McCain to be President of the United States and I do not trust Barack Obama for anything.
I trust John McCain but Barack Obama I consider to be the organizer of the greatest con job in history.
I trust John McCain with my life. I trust that I could tell McCain of my lifetime of Democratic voting yet still trust him with my life. I believe that if two people were hanging by their fingernails from a cliff and Obama could save one, he'd ask which one voted for him. I believe John McCain would not accept he could save only one and give each a hand.
I do not Trust Barack Obama because the simple truth is that like my dad said, Trust must be earned.
John McCain has earned my trust and my vote.

Beautifully written. Here's one more
"May the best man win."
Like you, my significant other is voting for Obama. I asked her to ask herself, when she is standing in the voting booth - who is the better man?
How will he possibly handle a real full-time job for 4 years? I figure after 2 years, he will start running for "God."
God. I expect him to try and throw out the 22nd. amendment so he can be President for Life.

Not to have realized that. What will he do when that requires effort?
I heard some newscaster/pundit discussing how Obama or McCain would govern. Obama would be like Bush - a small cadre of loyalists making all the decisions. Scary isn't it? How similar to Bush he is. Unqualified, untried, untested, combined with amazing arrogance.
We'll be governing, all of us are the change, all of us will govern, all of us will make the decisions he cannot make.

I know just how you feel NewHampster. I remember the first time I heard a televised speech that BO was making somewhere in the south. That normally clipped midwestern accent turned into Baptist minister sermonizing at a black church on Sunday morning, and I knew he was a pandering schmuck. It just got worse from there. I had such high hopes for Hillary. It seemed inevitable that she would be the nominee, but the DNC killed that. Good luck tomorrow! I only know you from Partizane and NQ, but you write like a person with true conviction, character and integrity. You are able to look past party ideology and do what is in the best interest of this country. I really hope you win!
You just got my first man tear of the day.
Thank you

I can't believe I'm like the guys who feel their wife's pregnancy or something. I'm hanging around with women too much.

Dead. Nuts. Perfect.
WHERETHEHELL IS MY ERA???
Great post NH.
I too trust John McCain and Sarah Palin to do the right thing. Not because it is the easy thing thing or the most popular thing but because it is the "right" thing.
I don't trust Obama to do the right thing because he's shown us again and again that he doesn't even know what the "right" thing is unless a poll tells him. This is a man without honor. Unfortunately there's a lot of that going around in Washington D.C.
So long as we vote as partisans this is the kind of government we get and the kind of government we deserve. And we will never be able to elect an honest, decent candidate so long as the media is doing the choosing for us.
We'll never clean up politics until we clean up the media. A dishonst media is a crime against democracy. That's my ongoing argument and my newest cause.
Feminism is a lifelong commitment and an ongoing cause for me. Unlike the media would have us believe many of us are quite capable of holding two or more ideas in our heads and hearts at the same time.
A Dishonest/Biased Media Is A Crime Against Democracy!
but first, your post showed me that the server clock needs to be turned back an hour.
Fox had some numbers and I may have them wrong but you'll get the idea.
CBS News spent 1.9 million travelling and covering Obama, 500 thou on McCain.

That blatant bias is why I deleted my CBS bookmark two weeks back. Should've done it months ago. How the network of Walter Cronkite has fallen.
Later.
WHERETHEHELL IS MY ERA???
I was telling my husband the same thing last night. Trust is essential, and when Barack Obama cheated in order to win the Dem primaries, and changed his mind on issue after issue, he proved he was unworthy of mine.

PUMAs Forever
And don't you just love the "but but but we're gonna hold his feet to the fire" after today crap. OMFG, that's unbelievable that anyone in their right mind actually believes that fantasy. If he wins, he OWNS the party and with a Dem congress, he OWNS the country.
Either people who love Hillary act TODAY or it's gone. I don't get the ones who claim to ADORE Hillary, yet won't make the ultimate sacrifice for her (and the country) today. This voting "topless" shit or writing in DOES NOT CUT IT. We MUST vote against BO, that means pull the lever for McCAIN people, or forever hold your peace. Cause if anyone starts with the we Luvvvvvv Hillary bs after today who didn't vote AGAINST BO, I'm calling their asses out for the next four years.
Whew, that vent felt good.
