FL Girl Called 'Racist' for Wearing pro-Palin T-shirt

grlpatriot - Posted on 17 October 2008

Read my lips people: S-T-O-P with the faux charges of racism; children are now getting on the faux outrage bandwagon. MyFox Orlando has the story:

She's only 12 years old but Ashleigh Jones is feeling the heat of this election year. That’s because the seventh grader at New Smyrna Beach Middle School was called a racist by classmates for wearing a pro-Sarah Palin t-shirt. Jones is volunteering at the Republican Headquarters in New Smyrna Beach. The Palin t-shirt was a gift from her fellow volunteers. "Some of the students were calling me racist because I was Caucasian," she said. "I wanted the Caucasian man to win. And I told them that’s not true. It’s my freedom of speech, it’s my opinion." Jones' parents say they aren't mad at the school they just want everyone including their daughter to voice their opinion constructively.

Here is the t-shirt in question:

Teachable moment. This is not racism. Racism is real and wrong. Let's not weaken our resolve in stamping out racism (and sexism) by making false charges and teaching our children to follow our lead in perpetuating our faux outrage. Seriously, stop this nonsense!

Support for McCain is just that — support for the candidate and his character, judgment, policies, vision, and experience. Non-support of Obama has nothing to do with the color of his skin, but has everything to do with the content of his character, judgment, policies, vision, and experience. Are there some people out there who won't vote for Obama because he is a person of color? Unfortunately, yes. But there are millions more who will vote for Obama because he is.

I encourage readers to check out the video of the story (can't embed it here, sorry). I really like how the parents, school, and teacher handled this incident and turned it into a teachable moment for the students. This is how we move forward together in tolerance, acceptance, and appreciation for diversity.

Ashleigh, even though I believe that political campaigns don't belong in school, good for you for standing up for yourself and not living in fear of being called a racist. Don't worry, you are not alone; 18 Million voters got called racist for supporting Hillary Clinton in the primaries. I should know, I was one of them.

Go Ashleigh, Go! I'm proud of you.

I think not...at least where Obama's cult is concerned.  In order to teach someone, they must be willing to learn.

The lesson here is not that accusing someone of r@cism because they do not support the black candidate is wrong.  The lesson here is that Obama supporters have gone so far off the deep end that there is no reasoning with them.

if he thinks it racist for a 12 year old to wear that shirt.  I also understand that this is kids have no freekin clue what they're saying.  It's more of the attitude of disrespect for others that has filtered down from the top of the Obama campaign.

We need to lay the blame at the feet of parents who are taking their queues from the Obama campaign and the Obamedia.

Red Hot & Blue Politics | Alice left me in Wonderland

They get it from somewhere. most of them don't have even a clue as to which candidate is which let alone what their platforms are. If the kids are calling her racist over this then they picked up that attitude from someone, most likely parents or older siblings. Kids do not think up stuff like this on their own.

Good for her though to be aware and voluteering. Not your typical 12 yr old!

Anyone else who would like to post this at Alegre's Corner, please feel free. Just give me and Partizane credit.

Sorry, NH.  Someone else?

I think that's overblowing it a bit. Camp is no fan of Barack.

is a fan of Barack.  That's obvious.  But they do not tolerate anyone who is voting for McCain.

I was lucky to escape with my posting privileges intact.  I credit Alegre for that.  But it's going to be a long time before I think about returning.

I was accused of undermining BO and Hill because of my latest peice.  I was told Obama is better than Kerry.  Frankly, I never in my life wished so much Kerry had won.  He may not be great, but he would not have wiped Hillary off his foot like dog crap.  I took down my offensive piece and am taking a slight break.  I don't want to harm A's relationship with the Hill staffers. Like I said, I can understand voting for ideology, I can not understand thinking BO has become a wonderful person and will have Hillary making all the important decision if he wins.  That's delusional, and I won't go there.

doesn't mean we have to like it but at least you can vent.

get attacked for my habit of putting thoughts to keyboard without worrying about who I may offend or undermine or whatever.

on the receiving end of some very heated arguments here.  But you won't be removed or even threatened with such.

When I was in my twenties I had a conversation with my dad.  I'd read an article on abortion rights that was in direct opposition to my position and was fuming about the author's narrow-minded position.  My dad asked me why I read opinions that did not support my own position.  After I'd recovered from the shock, I told him that reading contrary opinions was the only way I would know if my own was correct.

When you listen to the other side of an argument one of two things will happen.  You will either realize you were wrong and change your position or you will be confirmed in what you believe to be true.

You and I don't always agree but I treasure your presence here.  You make me think.  I'm glad you're here and I hope you stay.

I'm stunned.  May I take parts of this incredble comment and add it to the site rulz?

Civil Discourse - ERA - A Mother President - Women's Rights - Primary Reform

Of course you may.  I don't see what's so stunning about my comment but it's all yours.  Thanks for the praise.

And thanks for giving me a blog to call home.

That's the way it's supposed to work---unfortunately, at other sites, people are more interested in insulting anyone who questions their point of view, or has a different opinion.  I wish everyone could be as open minded and equitable as you are, Creeper.

...sometimes I don't feel very reasonable.  But thank you just the same.

Watching the blogs disintegrate has been painful for me.  I was beginning to think there was nowhere I could post what I felt and not get flamed by someone.  Then Hamp gave me a shout out and held the door open here. There are no flames here...just a warm, cozy glow.

Home I am.

For bringing me my first Saturday morning smile.  Cal, thanks for the warmth---although here in Cali today, we really don't need it.

I just got back from a 2 hour hike along the Souhegan River.  Lots of color and no people or bots.

I've been thinking since I read today the SCOTUS had trashed the "Help America Vote Act" that this mess is all the fault of noecon Republicans.  The president they gave us was such an unmitigated disaster that a sense of disgust with anything Republican, even John McCain, permeates everything.

God damn you, James Baker.  God damn you, John Bolton.  God damn you, Sandra Day O'Connor.  It was YOU who gave us Barack Obama.  May you all rot in hell.

GONE FISHING

You're too supportive of Obama on some sights and too unsupportive on others.

I see you have a FP post up right now about single-payer health insurance.  But I wondered what happened to your last piece---I saw that it was removed.  You have to keep all your posts at AC about issues ONLY, and nothing that allows for any negative comments about BO.  Frankly, I find it difficult to edit myself---I don't like being so careful with my writing.  It reminds me of the days I wrote for television and all scripts had to go through "Programs and Practices" to be censored.  I hated that with a passion, but at least I made a paycheck.  No paycheck, no censoring, that's my philosophy.

Got an email one day that she was gone until the election and the next day she was venting and fuming with the best of the bots.

ML at least gave it a day or two.

Notice who has not posted on AC since saying Toodles.

Do I win the refrigerator?

But I had to write about that health care story.  I took down my post because I was told I was undermining Hillary, yada yada yada.  I haven't got time to fight about it.  I, too, can't edit myself, and you know, I tend to get in trouble with alot of people.  Evil

Gee, and I thought it was TheOne who had undermined Hillary.
