BlizzardNothing else you can do but enjoy it.  Have a blizzard party with neighbors and snuggle up with a good book.

Camping Headlamps are the best way to read in the dark.  Oil lamps are cool but very tiring on the eyes.

Have fun, stay warm and safe.  We'll see you on the otherside.

The NWS has increased the snow totals for my immediate area to nearly 3 feet. Tonight and tomorrow morning there will be heavy snow with close to blizzard conditions with blowing and drifting snow. We're having to go out and push the shovel over the walks every few hours but we'll be buried overnight anyway. We stocked up on groceries yesterday. Sure hope we don't lose power. Fortunately, my stove is dual fuel so if the power goes out, we still have gas burners. We also have a fireplace for heat in a pinch. There's even a battery-powered TV but it probably won't work since it's analog. I'll keep my iPhone and MacBook Pro charged up. Plenty of candles and a battery-powered camp light that's fluorescent. Better plug in the UPS now that I'm thinking about it.

No wind right now so the snow is pretty on the branches but that'll change in a few hours.

WASHINGTON – No, maybe he can't. President Barack Obama, who insisted he would succeed where other presidents had failed to fix the nation's health care system, now concedes the effort may die in Congress.

The president's newly conflicting signals could frustrate Democratic lawmakers who are hungry for guidance from the White House as they try to salvage the effort to extend coverage to millions of uninsured Americans and hold down spiraling medical costs. Obama's comments Thursday night came hours after Republican Scott Brown was sworn in to replace the late Edward M. Kennedy, leaving Democrats without their filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, and Obama's signature health legislation with no clear path forward.

"I think it's very important for us to have a methodical, open process over the next several weeks, and then let's go ahead and make a decision," Obama said at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.

"And it may be that ... if Congress decides we're not going to do it, even after all the facts are laid out, all the options are clear, then the American people can make a judgment as to whether this Congress has done the right thing for them or not," the president said. "And that's how democracy works. There will be elections coming up, and they'll be able to make a determination and register their concerns."

It was a shift in tone for the issue the "Yes we can" candidate campaigned on and made the centerpiece of his domestic agenda last year. In a speech to a joint session of Congress in September, Obama declared: "I am not the first president to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last. ... Here and now we will meet history's test."

Health Care Reform is Dead.  Long Live Health Care Reform

If they'd just concentrate on ways to reduce costs, it'd be a really big help but no, they just had to cram too many things into the bill so that it had no chance of passing.

the real problem is they took everything out and had a shell of a bill.

Should have gone for the full single payer.

You and I will never agree on this so let's not get into it. ;)

And another 10 inches on the way. We're really lucky to have power. About 200,000 homes in the area are without power. We had some power outages last night that knocked out my Internet connection. Just managed to get it back this morning.

Area airports are closed and above-ground subway service stopped last night. Post offices are closed and no mail delivery. A private jet hangar at Dulles had a roof collapse. DC has a blizzard warning. Heavier snow is expected this afternoon and should end shortly after sunset.
