As the Blog Turns

Yes, something is happening here and it ain't all exactly clear.   Damn

This place was intended to be a political blog and not a blog about blogging, ethics and how to treat your neighbor right.  Guess I was wrong but then maybe it was to be expected when I myself set the rule that all sides will be heard, none will be banned and gave folks an "ignore user" button.  Add to that my personal desire to elect women to positions of power, which I think has something to do with this place becoming me, ron and a bunch of caring women.

I am not a woman.  Won't ever be.  Won't ever be a sister.  Won't ever feel how women react under pressure or pleasure.  All I can do for my chosen cause, is to provide a platform and some very often wrong male input.  I will never write a treatise on Women's rights but I damned sure will read everything Izarradar writes about women.  It is not my place to tell women how to be the women leaders we need.  Am I making sense?  Do you see the head games I go through with a blog somewhat for and about women?

So here we go again with a reset if you will.  I want eveybody to look at the header (those who haven't already left).  Ignore the cute hamster and the dancers and the puma you may not have even seen before.  What does the header say?

Civil Discourse, ERA, a Mother President, Women's Rights, Primary Reform

That header must have been written by a Republican because we know those issues are all at the top of their agendas.  I won't say any more about that right now, I'll let y'all think on it.

-----------------------------------------------------

Then there is the RULEz

Disrespect of others is the only thing not tolerated here. Civil Discourse is the rule of the day.

My mother raised me with that one rule you all know.  The Golden Rule.  As I bounced from blog to blog and back again over the last 8 years I kept asking myself what happened to the Golden Rule.  Where is the respect I was raised to show not just my elders, but everyone?  That's the line Joe Wilson crossed.  He broke the Golden Rule.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Why should that matter on a political blog?  Screw that jerk he's just a bot.  Ban that troll. She picked on what I said.

I think it was best said in a story told on our about page.  Told by one I feel I've hurt by sticking to my own rules.

I quote. http://partizane.com/node/24

When I was in my twenties I had a conversation with my dad.  I'd read an article on abortion rights that was in direct opposition to my position and was fuming about the author's narrow-minded position.  My dad asked me why I read opinions that did not support my own position.  After I'd recovered from the shock, I told him that reading contrary opinions was the only way I would know if my own was correct.

When you listen to the other side of an argument one of two things will happen.  You will either realize you were wrong and change your position or you will be confirmed in what you believe to be true.

You and I don't always agree but I treasure your presence here.  You make me think.

---------------------------------------------

oh yeah back to that header stuff

I became an Independent this year in protest of the party that had been my hobby and much of my social life for 40 odd years.  I left the Democratic Party but did not and will not become a Republican.  I may vote for one now and then since I broke the ice last November, but the party of Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Shrub Bush and Dick Cheney offers absolutely nothing of value to my country.  What! he doesn't like the party of ideas?

What ideas?  They learned in the 70's that it is so much easier to win by being against than it ever is to win by being for something.  That is what Karl Rove taught them.  Semantics to the extreme but real none the less. It is always easier to tear down than build.

Fighting for something like health care is really hard when all your oponents have to do is call you names to get people all riled up.  Grandma killers, tax and spend liberals, socialists.  Yeah those are ideas.  No damnit.  I think Obama has sold us down the river and could care less about Health Care.  I am not saying he is right, I am saying the ideal of universal Health Care is right.  Don't make this about whether i like his Oliness or not.

Well I believe in ideas and ideals.  I supported Hillary Clinton because she had real honest hard worked on ideas for this country.  Hillary's only fault was that she was for things.  Obama won by being the Anti-Hillary.  The Anyone but Clinton.  The last Man standing.  The one against the war.  The one against her too drastic ideas for Health Care.  He won because Axelrove taught him to never be for anything.  Be like Republicans. Never take a positive stance.  Simple.

I believe in trying to make this country better.  I believe in the core liberal ideal that government can be and do more good than a lack of government.  I believe that humans form societies in order to support each other.  That the group is stronger than the individual in facing danger or adversity.  That as members of a society, we all must pay our fair share to run it.

What am I saying?  That nowhere in all the mess of this site does it say we should or can be like the Republicans or Obama.  I will not allow this to become a typical, negative blog.  We all visit them because we're all eternally 12 years old.  The ones that start every thread screaming that Obama is an ass.  They get lots of hits, tons of me toos and loads of advertising for all those page views.  I will not allow us to go down the road of being against Obama just because he's Obama.  He is the President of the USA.  He is an ass.  he is wrong on so much, actually he isn't always wrong he just doesn't care or have any ideals.  But once in awhile even shrub was right.

To those whom I've totally offended tonight.  If you leave Partizane because of me then I am sad, but not sorry.  Tonight I'll sleep better than I have in weeks.

I want this site to be a meeting of ideas from both left and right even if I plainly lean left.  As I also said on the about page over two years ago, when this blog was me and me.

But the overiding Mission of Partizane.com is to fight for the middle. Fight for the right to disagree. If we can help create a new party or radically change one of the existing ones then this will be great.

Very beatiful sculpture, New Hampster.

Truth be told it is the name of a boat of my dreams, though a kite is what I am in reality.

Thanks , hope all is well.

when I was a kid, I used to sand and polish the Teak on my dad's boat.  The boat of my dreams is all fiberglass and metal.

I love your your passion, Hampy!  Groupthink kills discourse, and nothing substantial is ever created by negativity.

It was actually the meanness and put-downs of everyone but themselves as a base strategy that made me detest Republicanism during the Reagan years.   When I started moving around the political sites in 2007-2008 I saw that same quality spreading among Obama supporters (not all of them, mind, but enough that it wasn't isolated cases or anomalies) and it made me recoil.  I found that what I had thought was a quality or at least a correlate of an ideology was really anything but.  It is a quality of some part of society, always; the only thing is whether it's allowed to dominate our public/political lives.

(not that I'm some holier-than-thou immune; I've written more than one thing in the past 2 years I wish I'd put differently, and always, always have to remember to keep my anger in check, lest I contribute to the loss of civility).

Thanks, NH, for holding the line.

appreciate it

is one of the best places to read on the intertubez.  Sorry I don't say much but, by the time I get to posts, it's all been pretty well covered.  Keep the faith!

we try hard and it's nice for someone to say it's worth it.

Great post, Hampy.  I'm still here, don't comment much any more, and don't plan on continuing to visit daily.  We need more sites where all sides can come together without abusing each other.

In total agreement:

Have a great day!
