Democrats Work To Avoid 2008 Primary Strife
June 27, 2009 12:09 PM
ABC News' David Chalian reports: One year after the country got an in-depth lesson on "superdelegates," the Democratic Party may consider doing away with them in the future.
It was just over one year ago when Barack Obama accumulated more delegates than Hillary Clinton, causing the former first lady to end her historic campaign to become the Democratic presidential nominee.
But there is no rest for the weary.
The lengthy, expensive, and often divisive 2008 Democratic nominating process caused the launch of a Democratic National Committee review of how to tweak the primary and caucus process to avoid some of the pitfalls exposed in the Obama vs. Clinton battle royale last year.
That review began today at the inaugural meeting of the DNC's "Change Commission" in Washington, D.C.
Of course, to the winner goes the spoils and it is now Barack Obama's Democratic party. Any changes made to the nominating system will, no doubt, reflect the Obama world view of the process such as reducing the influence of superdelegates.
At the beginning of today's meeting, the co-chair of the Change Commission Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., described the group's mission as focused on "changing the window of time in which primaries and caucuses may be held, reducing the number of superdelegates, and improving the caucus system."

I wonder if that fix will be like Obama's plan to "reform" Social Security.
I wouldn't trust those lying, cheating, thieving bastards on the DNC if they told me the sun rose in the east. You can bet the farm that whatever comes out of this will be solidly stacked in Barack Obama's favor.
I told you so!
They can fix it all they want, I'm staying an Independent! They made it clear they didn't want us Hillary supporters, tossed our votes, abused us as if we all were suffering from Stockholm Syndrome thinking we'd all meekly come back to our abuser and do as they said. 2008 was the year I felt as if all my years of voting were a joke, all I had fought for was a mirage, that I had been horribly used. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, AGAIN!
I'm not sure how true it is, but CUIP has the number of Independents up to 40%. http://www.independentvoting.org/ They appear to lean more towards Obama right now, they used to back Nader, but I can't find any other sources to confirm that the number of Independents is on the increase.
Does anyone else know if the number of Independents are increasing and the membership in both parties are nosediving?
Is all I need to know. Life long dem. Born a donkey's ass.
Dem activist, volunteer, canvasser, vice chair of local dem committee. Now a proud NH Independent.

Astra14, I do know that the numbers of Independents have increased a great deal this past year and continues to increase. People are increasingly disgusted with both parties. I became and Independent in January of 2007.
it is great to be free. (The only problem is I keep getting phone calls for money.)
This reminds of when a product says that it is "new and improved." What ususally happens is that you get less quality for more money....essentially the consumer gets screwed. I don't trust the DNC and whatever they do to "fix" the primary system will most assuredly screw the voters.
They are going to "fix" it? They all ready did and the "fixee" is sitting in the Oval Office. The DNC is still trying to pretend that they aren't part of the culture of corruption. And failing miserably. But it doesn't matter because they have the equally corrupt media to cover for them.
The media that obsessed about a Republican Governor's tawdry little affair while evidently ignoring the fact that a Democratic Congressman's wife is about to go to jail. While Conyers is sitting in Washington D.C. worrying more about his damn career than his spouse. Funny how when the shoe is on the other foot there isn't any "standing by your woman" from these pols.

The last campaign was nothing but fixed. They killed the party in 2009; there is nothing left.
for "we are going to fix it so only our boys get elected by using the same dirty tactics we did last time."
NOT part of the culture of corruption?
I told you so!
I recall that Obama moved the DNC headquarters to Chicago.
What else do we really need to know about how the Obama-controlled DNC plans to "fix" the primary system, and especially the caucus system -- which delivered the nomination to Obama?
to move the White House to Chi town.

It's a brand new (well almost), never-been-used, state-of-the art facility with space for 1,600 workers. Constructed by the State of Illinois in 2000, at a cost of $140 million, it has gone unutilized because the state refused to fund its operation.
Thompson Correctional Facility
We understand it has been gutted of most of its maximum-security equipment and that equipment shipped to other prisons in Illinois. But it still has the electric fences and guard towers. Why does this seem so particularly appropriate for politicians?
And how on earth do the voters of Illinois stand this kind of idiocy?
I told you so!
of Chicago keep voting for the Daley machine that has controlled their city for two generations? That's the slime and sleeze that Obama and his pals came from and what we now have in power in Washington.
Washington was undoubtedly corrupt before. Now it's corrupter. (I don't think that a word but it sure fits.)

Well, it depends on what your definition of fix is. If it's "repair, mend", no.
If it's "to arrange or influence the outcome or action of, esp. privately or dishonestly", then yes, that is exactly what they are doing. Sorry to put a link to my blog here, but I wrote a brief piece on what they were actually doing, and some groups you might contact to ask for help make the democratic primaries more democratic.

At the end of the blog entry I have put contact info to 5 womens groups, I've written to each of them and asked that they contact the DNC on our behalf. Please join me and write them as well. What happened last year was sick and we must do what we can to change it.
