Evan Bayh says "it's time" for incumbents to go. sticky icon

This Yahoo article makes clear why Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) is about to retire; he is tired of the partisanship, gridlock, and pointless politicking going on at the expense of the American people.

To Mark Halperin: Au Contraire, mon frére -- Joe Scarborough defends Hillary. sticky icon

With all the hoopla over Mark Halperin's book Game Change in the major media, I went to read Peter Daou's account of what he saw from Hillary Clinton during the 2008 Presidential Campaign (Pacific John has an excellent article up now; go here http://alegrescorner.soapblox.... if you haven't already seen it).  Daou was a senior campaign staffer, and he's the first one to come out and say flat out that this book is wrong.  (Mind, I've seen many other denials since -- Howard Wolfson comes to mind -- from Hillary campaign staffers.  But Mr. Daou's was the first.)

But not all members of the major media have forgotten their recent history, and some of them have been quite articulate in their defense of Hillary Clinton.  The person who comes to mind, though, as having given the best defense of HRC's character to date, though, is former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough --MSNBC's "Morning Joe" himself.

Scarborough is displeased, as he says here in an article picked up by the Huffington Post:

Matt Taibbi's wrong: Obama is still the same, dammit. sticky icon

Most of you have seen Matt Taibbi's Rolling Stone article by now (see it here: http://www.rollingstone.com/po... ).  But the first few paragraphs are what is endemic about the current mess, with this quote being one to which I take immediate exception:

What's taken place in the year since Obama won the presidency has turned out to be one of the most dramatic political about-faces in our history.

No. It's. Not.

Obama Swats Fly; Media Swoons sticky icon

cross-posted at Alegre's Corner

I cannot make this stuff up, folks; today, Obama swatted a fly during a CNBC interview, and a story got written about it at AOL News, filed under "political news" and "national news," respectively.

Here's the link:

http://news.aol.com/article/ob...

A few lines from this "important" hard-hitting, news story follow:

Said Obama to the persistent fly: "Get out of here."
But it didn't.

My goodness! Something didn't obey President Obama on the first try? Sacrilege!

But we go on:

So Obama waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked the fly dead in one try.

Whoo-hoo! Way to go, Mr. President!

And yet, we go on:

Without missing a beat, the president said to CNBC correspondent John Harwood: "Now, where were we."

Obama's mishandling of Chrysler, GM, has made things worse. sticky icon

Crossposted at Alegre's Corner.

Barack Obama, by interfering in the General Motors and Chrysler situations, has made things worse.

This is the best way I can possibly put it after reading a very important article that I hope you all read ASAP; it's about one Chrysler dealership in Hobart, Indiana, which had been in business for eighty-one years.  They were profitable, and supported their community in many ways, including by charitable giving.

Now, because of how Obama interfered -- directly -- this dealership in Indiana can blame Obama, directly, for their unnecessary and pointless closure.

Here's the article; other comments follow after the break:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200...

My view is simple.  This is one dealership of many, but this is the prevailing wisdom: Obama made this mess, and made things worse, and doesn't really understand the economy or the grass roots.

And in this case, the prevailing wisdom is correct.

An Open Letter to Senator Byrd, AKA "Comments on Byrd's letter to the POTUS" sticky icon

crossposted from Alegre's Corner

I read with great incredulity last evening of Sen. Robert Byrd's letter to Barack Obama; Sen. Byrd, in this widely publicized letter to President Obama, is unhappy with what Byrd calls a "power grab" by the setting up of "policy czars" who bypass the Senate, thus doing an end-run around the Constitutional requirement of checks and balances.

Elitism Alert! Harry Reid at the new DC Visitors Center sticky icon

Crossposted from Alegre's Corner

Harry Reid had a pretty speech written out to commemorate the new DC Visitors Center (which went massively over budget, as does seemingly everything in government including the recent Treasury Dept. bailout for Wall Street), but couldn't stick to it.

Instead, he decided to comment on how, in the summer, tourists smell bad.

Really.

Here's a direct quote:

"My staff tells me not to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway," said Reid in his remarks. "In the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol. It may be descriptive but it's true."

Here's a link to what Reid said:

Weird stuff in Wisconsin sticky icon

I have never seen this before, and I just had to tell someone about it.

On the way into my temporary job this morning, I spotted a sign -- it said, "Same day registration in Wisconsin!"  (True.)

So, you might be asking, why was this a problem?

Because it also said, "Vote Barack Obama!" in big letters at the bottom, along with a telephone number (a 1-877-something number).  This, I believe, is quite illegal.

I am not surprised by this, considering all the other things the Obama campaign has done.  (Btw, another volunteer was carrying a much smaller sign for Democratic Assemblyman Cory Mason, an avid Obama supporter.  In the same color blue.)

Lea Lane's article: Do whatever you must to trick Hillary supporters into voting for Barack. sticky icon

This article by Lea Lane is truly awful; it's called, "Do Whatever You Must to Trick Hillary Supporters Into Voting for Barack" -- and it's disgusting.  (The secondary title, btw, is:  "Eat Crow?  Hell Yes, to Win This Election."

Here's the first two paragraphs:

An Inconvenient Election

(Crossposted at Alegre's Corner)

What have I learned from the 2008 election?

I learned that:

Voter fraud, vote theft and voter intimidation are all OK with the Democratic Party, so long as they're done on behalf of their chosen candidate, Barack Obama.

It's all right with the Democratic Party to have incompetent, immature twits on your staff -- sexists included -- so long as they're part of Barack Obama's staff.  (No need to worry about your liberal credentials, boys!  So long as you're for Obama, that's just fine with us.)
